A festival of film

Such excitement attending our first ever Manaiakalani Film Festival at Sylvia Park this morning!  Sitting in our luxurious "Extreme" seats, we watched films about the last apple, learning at school, a lonely dragon, battling penguins and GoPro sporting action.  Check out all of the movies at: https://sites.google.com/a/ptengland.school.nz/film-festival-2011/view-films/2014.

Our tapa treasures

Using what we know about patterns and colours of traditional tapa, we have created some of our own tapa artwork using crayon and dye.

Term 4 - a new focus

After our two week holiday, some quiet thinking time while sketching our classroom globe during SSD to start off our term.  What will we be learning about this term?  Where in the world is our focus?  Well, our big inquiry question is "How have the people of the Pacific passed on their cultural traditions over time?

Tomorrow we will begin finding out what we already know and what else we would like to find out about.  Ka kite apopo!

Azonto, Azonto

Skipping, stepping, slapping, clapping ... we danced our way very quickly around the Commonwealth showing our moves and skills to family and whanau visitors this afternoon. If you'd like to see the video, please come and watch in our classroom ... Now watch me do my Azonto, Azonto, Azonto ...

Everything is awesome!

Yesterday we hosted senior syndicate assembly, sharing some of the things we have learnt and created that relate to the XX Commonwealth Games.  As well as sharing our medal artwork and mascot designs, we all performed a mime of some of the Commonwealth sports ... lawn bowls, boxing, rugby, badminton, swimming, cycling, running ...  We all looked like champions and everything was awesome!  Thank you, Isabell, for taking our photographs.

Our eventful week!

Over and under, over and under

We had so much fun learning how to do some weaving.  It took a lot of patience and a buddy to tape our straws and pipe-cleaners to our frame.  Next, we used string, wool and ribbon to weave through the straws and pipe-cleaners - over and under, over and under!

How many players on a netball court?

While the rest of the world is glued to the soccer world cup, we are learning to glue our feet to the ground ... while we pass the netball without stepping.  Chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass, shoot!  There are 14 players on a netball court all together as there are two teams with seven players each!

Singing along

Everyone tuned in and sang along in tip-top voices at midday on Friday 30th May.  Along with the rest of Ruapotaka and other schools around New Zealand, we brought music into our classroom as part of MENZA's Hook, Line and Sing-A-Long.  Amazing job, Room 10!
