On The Road Again! - by Robati

Running is not allowed on the road.

On the road we always walk

Also when you're walking if someone hold their hand so they won’t run off.

Don’t just walk if you not patient for cars.

Parents always have to be your supervisor if you are with them.

And if you are not with a parent, make sure you look to your left and right.

To keep safe you have to: stop, look and listen.

Road Patrol is quite hard when you get nervous near the road

Or if you're used to the road you can do it easy

Look always - don’t stare at nothing - keep turning your head left to right.

The Ning Nang Nong - by Leanah

I was chosen to represent Room 10 at Ruapotaka's Poetry Recital on Friday. After reading some nonsense poems by Edward Lear and Spike Milligan, I decided to learn The Ning Nang Nong by Spike Milligan for the poetry recital. It is a bit of a tongue-twister!

Poetry recital

Congratulations to Room 10's poetry recitalists at the whole school poetry recital yesterday.

Kuini and Katrina worked together to write a poem about bullying not long after we had our session on learning to play chess. They both recited the poem in front of the class and decided to do a combined presentation for the whole school poetry recital.

Rhyming Family Poem

Robati did an awesome job checking out the Screencastify Chrome extension today.  He found it much simpler to use than Snagit - and we had no technical hitches!  Here he reads his humorous rhyming family poem created during free-choice writing yesterday.

How cool is our haiku?

Duffy, our reading hero, is holding a competition for a new T-shirt design. This new design is going to include a haiku on the back of the T-shirt - so we have been reminding ourselves about the structure and pattern of a haiku.  This is an example that Kuini, Tupouseini and Mary created.

Remembering at Ruapotaka

As ANZAC Day falls during the school holidays, Ruapotaka held a special assembly on Friday to remember all the soldiers and nurses who travelled to foreign lands to serve New Zealand during World War I. We remembered by wearing our poppies and by listening to students read poems. Prudence read her ANZAC poem on behalf of Room 10.

I'm in a rotten mood!

Kuini was feeling in a much better mood after she had recited her poem, I'm in a rotten mood!, by Jack Prelutsky. Kuini was selected as one of the students in Room 10 to perform her poem at our whole school poetry assembly yesterday. Having practised and practised, she was able to remember all of the words with confidence, although the trickiest word ended up being the name of the poet - Prelutsky (say "Prayer-loot-ski"). Well done, Kuini!

Finding more fun down the back of the chair!

For the first time Ruapotaka School held a poetry recital yesterday.  Three students from each class each shared a poem with the whole school and parents. Saluselo and Zion so enjoyed reading Margaret Mahy's "Down the back of the chair" that they both learnt it off-by-heart. What effort and commitment!  It was a pleasure to watch their shared recital of this amusing poem.
