Welcome to our blog which shares the learning and celebrates the successes of our amazing Year 5 and 6 learners in Room 10 from 2014-2016. We are part of the Manaiakalani cluster in Panmure, Auckland, and have taken huge pleasure in sharing our digital learning journey over this time. Kia ora!

How did Leilani and Pupuke introduce our movie?
Leilani and Pupuke did an awesome job of introducing our class movie to the audience at Hoyts Sylvia Park last Wednesday at the Manaiakalani Film Festival. Here you can listen to an audio of their introduction.

3rd place for me - by Leilani

On Tuesday my teacher Mrs Buchanan had told me that on Monday, when I was sick a lady called Rachel came over to our school on Monday. I was given a prize and a certificate from her for doing a good job blogging in the winter learning journey program but sadly I wasn't there. She had chosen three winners, I came third and Prudence came second and Jessica came first they also did a fantastic job on blogging as well. Then at the end of school my teacher had given me my prize and certificate to take home. I was so happy that I got this prize that when I got outside I was jumping around with excitement. In my prize I had a Rio DVD a green water bottle, water slingshot and three chocolates. When I got home my mum was very proud of me. The winter learning journey was fun for me and thank you to Rachel for my prize.

Tom and Vinicius Episode #2 - by Leilani

The search for just the right home:
Tom and Vinicius are trying to look for just the right home but it seem that all the homes in the forest have other animals living in them.
Leilani is blogging during the holidays to learn about the Olympic Games as part of the Winter Learning Journey.

The Vector Trip - by Saluselo
Following Vector's visit to Ruapotaka earlier in Term 2, a group of students from Ruapotaka, including ten from Room 10, visited Vector Arena in the city on Tuesday. They were lucky enough to look behind the scenes at the events centre. They even checked out the chill-out zone where the stars hang out. They also explored how Vector, the energy company, is investigating new technologies to charge electric cars.
Thank you, Saluselo, for creating this video at home to share some of the photos from your visit.

Still Life: Positive and negative
We are still living life to the full in Room 10! We created a second still life sketch of an apple using chalk on black paper, while still thinking about shape and shading. We found that we could add more detail to our shading using a pencil but most of us preferred creating the negative image with chalk because we could smudge the chalk to even out the shading.

Time for T-ball
This morning was a different kind of Monday morning. Some students from St Kents came to Ruapotaka to teach all of the Year 4, 5 and 6 students how to play some team games. There was lots of running and passing playing end ball (which is a little like capture the flag) and then students were able to show off their striking and catching skills playing T-ball.

Down the back of the chair!
This afternoon Room 10 were excited to host senior syndicate assembly to share what we learnt and created during our Book Week. Did you know that the New Zealand author, Margaret Mahy, had over 200 books published for children and young adults? As well as sharing this and other interesting facts in a quiz, we read her hilarious poem, Down The Back Of The Chair. Our artwork will be displayed in the library once we have pulled out everything that hides down the back of the chair!

"We're making clay pizza" by Leilani
My class mates and I were making fraction pizza out of clay. It was fun. We were talking about what toppings we were going to put on and who we were going to share the pizza with. When we made our pizza, we had to make sure that me and my buddy had the same amount of topping when we cut the pizzas into quarters, thirds and halves. That's what we're up to with our maths.

A picture of kind words
How do we make it easier to learn with others when we're part of a group?
We created word pictures of our ideas and discussions.
